The 30-second answer
13-inch Air (M1, M2, M3, M4): the universal portable. 1.24kg. Best battery. Lowest price. Right for 75% of buyers.
14-inch Pro (M1 Pro, M2 Pro, M3 Pro, M4 Pro/Max): the portable pro. 1.6kg. XDR display. Active cooling. For users who need real GPU + 32GB+ RAM.
16-inch Pro (M1 Pro/Max, M3 Pro/Max, M4 Pro/Max): the desktop replacement. 2.1kg. Same chassis benefits as 14 but bigger screen + 100Wh battery. For mostly-desk users.
Real dimensions + weight
13.6" Air: 30.4 × 21.5 × 1.13 cm. 1.24 kg. Fits any 13" sleeve, slides into a daypack.
14.2" Pro: 31.3 × 22.1 × 1.55 cm. 1.6 kg. Fits 14" sleeves. Heavier in hand but still portable.
16.2" Pro: 35.6 × 24.8 × 1.68 cm. 2.1-2.2 kg. Requires a dedicated 16" sleeve. Backpack-only carry.
Charger weight: 30W (Air) = 70g. 67W (Air M2/M3 16GB+) = 130g. 96W (Pro 14) = 280g. 140W (Pro 14 32GB+, Pro 16) = 330g.
Display quality at each size
13.6" Air (M2/M3/M4): Liquid Retina LED, 2560×1664 at 224 ppi, 500 nits, P3 wide color. NO ProMotion (60Hz). Good for everything except color-critical work + outdoor harsh sun.
14.2" Pro (M1 Pro+): Liquid Retina XDR (mini-LED), 3024×1964 at 254 ppi, 1000 nits sustained / 1600 peak HDR, 600 nits SDR on M3, 1000 nits SDR on M4. ProMotion 120Hz. P3 wide color, 10-bit. Genuinely color-accurate for print + photo + video work.
16.2" Pro: same panel tech as 14.2" Pro, just bigger. 3456×2234. ProMotion 120Hz, same nits, same color.
If you do print design / photo retouching / color-critical work: Pro 14 or Pro 16 is the right call. Air's panel is good but not press-color-critical.
Battery life at each size
13" Air: 49.9 Wh battery (M1) to 53.8 Wh (M4). Real-world 11-15 hours.
14" Pro: 70 Wh battery. Real-world 11-14 hours under sustained work.
16" Pro: 100 Wh battery. Real-world 13-17 hours under sustained work.
Battery winner: 16" Pro has the longest real-world battery, but at 2.1kg the weight penalty offsets portability gain. Air 13" still wins for daily mobile use.
Multi-monitor support
13" Air M1/M2/M3: 1 external monitor with lid open. Limitation.
13" Air M4: 2 external monitors with lid open. Fixed.
14" Pro all generations: 2 external monitors + laptop display = 3 displays.
14" Pro Max chips (M1 Max+, M3 Max+, M4 Max): 4 external + laptop.
16" Pro all generations: same external display counts as 14" Pro (Pro chip vs Max chip determines).
PKR pricing impact per size in mid-2026
13" Air M1 16GB/512GB: PKR 175-195k used.
14" Pro M1 Pro 16GB/512GB: PKR 320-360k used. Premium over Air: PKR 145-180k.
16" Pro M1 Pro 16GB/512GB: PKR 420-460k used. Premium over Pro 14: PKR 90-110k.
Verdict: the Air-to-Pro-14 jump is the meaningful one. Pro 14 to Pro 16 is more of an incremental screen-real-estate purchase.
Honest recommendations by use case
Student, writer, freelancer, traveller, general use: 13" Air. PKR 145-295k.
Designer, photographer, web developer: 14" Pro. PKR 320-530k. The XDR display matters.
iOS developer with simulators, multi-VM developer, heavy Lightroom user: 14" Pro 32GB. PKR 400-450k.
Video editor, 3D artist, full-time content creator (4K+): 14" Pro M3 Pro or 16" Pro M1 Max / M3 Max. PKR 530k-1.5M.
Engineer or researcher running heavy compute at a desk: 16" Pro Max. PKR 620k-2.1M. The larger battery + thermal envelope justifies the weight.
If you'll plug into an external 27" 4K monitor 80% of the time: get the 14" Pro, not the 16". The 14" stays in the backpack when you go to meetings.
