1. Ensure same iCloud account
AirPods automatically appear on any Mac signed in with the same Apple ID that originally paired them (usually your iPhone). Apple menu → System Settings → Apple ID — make sure the Mac is signed into the same account as your phone.
If signed in but AirPods don't appear: in the Mac's Bluetooth settings, click the X next to your AirPods to remove → put AirPods in the case → close lid → wait 30s → open lid → press and hold the setup button until the case LED blinks white → reconnect.
2. Hard reset the AirPods
Place AirPods in their case, close lid 30 seconds. Open lid. Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for 15 seconds — LED will flash amber then white. The AirPods are now factory-reset and ready to re-pair with any device.
3. Reset Mac Bluetooth
If above doesn't work: System Settings → Bluetooth → remove ALL devices → restart Mac → put AirPods in pairing mode → re-pair from scratch.
4. Update macOS + AirPods firmware
Old macOS + new AirPods firmware mismatches cause pairing issues. System Settings → General → Software Update on the Mac. AirPods firmware updates automatically when in case + near your iPhone with internet.
