Why Mac dominates pro photography
P3 wide colour gamut on all Retina screens — accurate edits. Native colour management. Lightroom + Capture One + Photo Mechanic all native + optimised. ProRAW + Apple's deep RAW understanding.
Pakistani wedding/event photographers overwhelmingly run Macs because the client-deliverable colour matches what they edited.
Starter photographer tier (PKR 220k–320k)
Used MacBook Pro 14" M1 Pro 16/512GB or new MacBook Air M3 16/512GB.
Handles: Lightroom Classic on 1500+ RAW files per shoot. Spot retouching in Photoshop. Light-medium client workloads.
Wedding/event photographer tier (PKR 380k–550k)
Used MacBook Pro 14" M2 Pro / M3 Pro 32GB/1TB. Storage matters — RAW files accumulate fast.
Capture One Pro + Lightroom + Photoshop simultaneously. Fast culling, batch processing, accurate previews.
Commercial/studio photographer tier (PKR 700k+)
MacBook Pro 14"/16" M3 Max or M4 Max 48–64GB / 2–4TB SSD. For: 50MP+ RAW files, large composite work, high-volume client shoots.
Pair with Apple Studio Display 27" or Pro Display XDR for accurate desktop work.
Storage strategy for photo work
Internal: 1TB minimum, 2TB sweet spot. RAW files at 50–100MB each, 1500/shoot = 75–150GB per event.
External Thunderbolt: 2TB Samsung T9 (PKR 45k) or LaCie Rugged (PKR 60k) for project archive. Reads at 2,800 MB/s — fast enough for direct editing from external.
NAS for studio: Synology DS923+ + 4× 8TB drives = 32TB raid PKR 350k. Long-term archive.
Calibration + colour-managed workflow
MacBook internal display: P3 gamut, factory-calibrated. Accurate for most photo work.
External monitor: calibrate with X-Rite Colormunki or Datacolor Spyder for accurate work. PKR 25k–55k calibrator investment pays back fast.
Print-house compatibility: deliver in sRGB JPEGs unless client specifies P3 / Adobe RGB. Pakistani print houses generally sRGB.
