TL;DR — what most Pakistanis actually need
Buy the Air if: web + Office + light Photoshop, study work, business email, occasional video editing under 4K, you carry your Mac daily.
Buy the Pro if: sustained 4K video work, Xcode iOS development, 3D rendering, large Lightroom catalogues, mini-LED display matters for colour work, you connect 2+ external displays.
Everyone else: Air. We sell 4 Airs for every Pro and most Pro buyers in Pakistan didn't actually need one.
Performance — the gap is smaller than you think
M3 Air vs M3 Pro on light tasks: identical. Chrome opens at the same speed. Word documents render at the same speed. Even Photoshop with a few layers is indistinguishable.
Where Pro wins: sustained loads (>5 minute renders), where the Air's fanless design causes throttling. A 30-minute DaVinci render runs ~20% faster on Pro. A 2-minute render: 5% faster. If your work is mostly short tasks, you'll never notice.
Display — Pro's real advantage
Pro has a Liquid Retina XDR mini-LED display with 1000-nit sustained brightness, 1600-nit HDR peak, 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. Air is 500 nits, no HDR, 60Hz.
For Pakistani conditions (bright outdoor light, occasional sunlight on the screen), Pro's brightness is genuinely useful. For colour-critical work (photo editing, video grading) the HDR + P3 colour space matters. For everything else, Air's display is excellent.
Battery — Air wins in real-world use
Apple claims 18 hours for both Air and Pro. In real Pakistani usage (heat + brightness up), the Air M3 typically delivers 14–16 hours, the Pro M3 Pro 12–14 hours. The bigger GPU and brighter display in the Pro drain power faster.
If unplugged time matters most (travel, university campuses with limited outlets), the Air is the right pick.
