1. Discrete GPU (AMD Radeon Pro 5300M/5500M) failure
The single most common failure on the A2141. The dGPU develops solder fatigue from heat cycling and starts showing artifacts, vertical lines, or full system freezes when GPU-intensive work runs.
Symptom: random freezes when external display is connected, artifacts in Final Cut, occasional rainbow stripes. Workaround: force iGPU only via gfxCardStatus. Permanent fix: GPU reflow or BGA chip replacement, PKR 30,000–45,000 at the workshop.
2. Flexgate-style display cable wear
The Pro 16" inherited the redesigned hinge cable that's supposed to fix flexgate, but in heavily-used units we see thin horizontal lines after 4+ years.
Fix: display assembly replacement (or display cable swap if caught early), PKR 35,000–55,000 fitted with genuine Apple panel.
3. Battery swelling at 3+ years
A1973/A2113 battery cells in the Pro 16" are large (~99.8 Wh). Heat + Pakistani temperatures accelerate swelling. Symptom: trackpad becomes hard to click, bottom case bulges, Mac rocks on a flat surface.
Critical: do NOT continue using a swollen Mac (fire risk + trackpad damage). Replacement: PKR 18,000–22,000 with genuine A2113 cell, same-day fitting.
4. Magic Keyboard issues (rare but happens)
The Pro 16" was the first Mac with the new Magic Keyboard (replacing the failed butterfly design). Most A2141s have no keyboard issues. The few we see are spill-related, not design defects.
Fix: full top-case (keyboard + battery + trackpad as a unit), PKR 45,000–65,000. Quicker than chasing individual keys.
5. T2 chip lockout after macOS reinstall
The 2019 Pro 16" has Apple's T2 security chip. If a botched macOS reinstall corrupts the T2 firmware, the Mac can refuse to boot — and AASP often quotes 'replace logic board'.
Our workshop can revive T2 firmware via DFU mode + Apple Configurator 2 procedures. PKR 8,000–15,000 if no hardware damage, much cheaper than a board swap.
