Standalone trackpad (Intel Pro 2012–2015)
Older MacBook Pros have a separate trackpad assembly that can be replaced without changing the top-case. Cost: PKR 12,000–22,000 fitted including Force Touch recalibration.
Models: Pro 13" Retina A1502 (2013–2015), Pro 15" Retina A1398 (2012–2015), MacBook Air A1466 (2013–2017).
Top-case trackpad (most modern Macs)
MacBook Air 2018+ and MacBook Pro 2016+: trackpad is part of the top-case assembly — can't be replaced separately. Must replace entire top-case (which includes keyboard + battery).
Cost: PKR 32,000–80,000 depending on model. Air M1: ~PKR 35,000. Pro 14" M-series: ~PKR 55,000. Pro 16" M-series: ~PKR 80,000.
When trackpad replacement isn't needed
Cursor jumping issues: often a software fix (SMC reset, NVRAM reset, disabling Force Click in System Settings → Trackpad).
Right-click not working: check System Settings → Trackpad → Secondary Click. Verify two-finger tap is enabled.
Force Touch not working: usually firmware needs reset, not hardware replacement.
When trackpad replacement IS needed
Physical damage (cracked glass surface). Trackpad won't click at all. Multi-touch gestures registering as wrong gestures consistently. Trackpad lifts/buckles. After liquid spill that affected click mechanism.
