The five reasons
1. macOS support is ending. Apple is dropping Intel architecture year by year. By 2027-2028, Intel Macs won't get major macOS updates. By 2029-2030, no security updates at all.
2. Battery age. Most Intel MacBooks on the Pakistani used market are 5-7 years old. Their batteries need replacement within 6-12 months of purchase (PKR 18-25k cost).
3. Thermal behaviour. Intel chips throttle aggressively under any sustained load. Fans run constantly. Mid-2010s Intel MacBooks have audible fan noise during Zoom calls · embarrassing in 2026.
4. Apple Silicon at the same price is better. PKR 145k buys a 2020 M1 Air OR a 2018 Intel Pro 13. The M1 outperforms the Intel by 2-3x and lasts 3 more years.
5. Our warranty math doesn't work on Intel Macs. Too many faults manifest within 90-180 days post-purchase. We couldn't honestly offer a 15-day warranty on Intel without it becoming customer-dispute heavy.
What the Pakistani used Intel market looks like in 2026
OLX Pakistan: thousands of listings, PKR 75-130k typical range for working Intel Air or Pro 13.
Hafeez Centre: similar pricing, mostly buyer-beware.
Most listings are 'works fine' but: battery degraded, thermal paste needs replacement, fans louder than they should be, macOS one or two versions behind current.
Honest reality: Intel Macs in this market are coming up on end-of-life from a software AND hardware perspective. We don't think buyers should put PKR 100-130k into something with 18-month effective remaining life.
Why some sellers still push them
Volume + margin. OLX and Hafeez Centre sellers can buy Intel Macs from corporate buybacks cheap (PKR 50-70k), mark up to PKR 100-130k, sell quick.
Customer doesn't immediately discover the limitations. The Mac boots, opens Office, runs Chrome. The decay shows up at month 4 when battery suddenly drains, or month 8 when macOS no longer supports the chip.
By the time the customer realizes, the seller is gone. OLX user account abandoned, Hafeez Centre shop denies the sale.
We've watched this cycle for 5+ years. It's why we stopped contributing to it.
What to buy instead at each price point
PKR 100-145k budget: SAVE UP TO PKR 145k for an M1 Air. The PKR 30-45k extra spend buys you 3+ years of additional working life.
PKR 145-200k budget: M1 Air at PKR 145k OR upgraded M1 Air 16GB/512GB at PKR 185k. Best PKR-per-performance ever sold.
PKR 200-250k budget: M2 Air at PKR 195-245k. MagSafe, better display, newer chassis.
PKR 250-350k budget: M3 Air at PKR 250-360k OR Pro 14 M1 Pro at PKR 320k. Genuine pro-tier or latest-Air decision.
All these have AppleForce 15-day warranty + 7-day money-back. None of them are Intel.
Trade-in if you own an Intel MacBook
We still BUY Intel MacBooks for trade-in credit. Working units: PKR 35-65k typical credit. Non-working: PKR 15-40k parts value.
Apply credit toward any Apple Silicon Mac in our stock. Common path: trade in 2018 Intel Pro 13, add PKR 200k cash, walk out with M2 Air or M1 Pro 14.

The 2026 used Intel market will continue declining. Your Intel MacBook is worth more today than it will be in 12 months. Trade now if you've been thinking about it.
When Intel might still make sense
Specific legacy software compatibility (32-bit applications, old Pro Tools sessions, x86-only enterprise tools). Rare in Pakistan.
You already own an Intel Mac that's working and you need to extend it 12-18 more months. Battery replacement + thermal paste reapply: PKR 30-35k all-in, buys you reasonable time.
You're a tinkerer and want a cheap Mac to learn macOS or experiment with. PKR 75k OLX Intel is fine for this.
For everyone else (99% of buyers), Apple Silicon is the right answer in 2026.
