Which MacBook uses which charger
MagSafe 1 / MagSafe 2 (2008–2015): magnetic connector, original. MagSafe is the safety standard — yank the cable, magnet releases.
USB-C charging (2016–2021): all Pro/Air models in this period use USB-C as charging port. No magnetic release.
MagSafe 3 (2021+): Pro 14"/16" M1 Pro/Max and newer have brought MagSafe back. Air M2/M3/M4 also have MagSafe 3.
Charging speeds — actual wattage
Air models charger: 30W (M1) or 35W (M2/M3 dual-port). Pro 13"/14" base: 67W. Pro 14" Pro/Max: 96W. Pro 16": 140W fast-charge over MagSafe 3.
Critical: USB-C cable + power adapter must both support the higher wattage for fast charge. A 96W Pro 14" with a 30W charger works but takes 4+ hours.
Pakistan market prices (2026)
Genuine Apple MagSafe 3 cable: PKR 8,500. Genuine 67W USB-C adapter: PKR 13,500. Genuine 96W: PKR 17,500. Genuine 140W: PKR 22,500.
AppleForce-stocked aftermarket equivalents (UL-listed, tested): 30–40% cheaper but we strongly recommend genuine for safety. We've seen cheap chargers cause logic-board damage.
Why MagSafe 3 came back
USB-C ports are great for charging but the cable rigidity caused Pro 13" 2017–2020 port wear within 2–3 years. MagSafe magnetic snap solves this.
Apple also: keep USB-C for accessories/displays, dedicate MagSafe to charging — best of both worlds.
Which to buy if you have a USB-C-only Mac (2016–2021)
Genuine Apple 87W or 96W USB-C charger + USB-C to USB-C cable. Total cost PKR 22,000.
Cheaper alternative: Anker 100W GaN charger ~PKR 8,500 + good USB-C cable. Works but no Apple branding/warranty.
